Federation of European Movers Association (FEDEMAC) Explained

The Federation of European Movers Association (FEDEMAC) is a European body that has been established to promote the moving industry on a European level. Its membership is predominantly made up of national moving associations.

Key facts about FEDEMAC

FEDEMAC membership is made up of National Moving Associations located in Europe.
FEDEMAC represents the interests of around 3,000 professional moving companies.
Members are located in 26 European countries, 24 of them are EU-Member states. Switzerland and Norway are also represented by FEDEMAC.
FEDEMAC is administrated by a general assembly that meets once a year and is made up of representatives of the FEDEMAC Members (Member Associations and Direct Affiliated Member Companies).
Much of FEDEMAC’s work is promoting members’ interests at the EU Parliament and Commission.

FEDEMAC’s purpose is to represent the moving industry in Europe, its concerns, its needs and its purpose. It has also been designed to help to coordinate activities of its members to create maximum impact in Europe.

A large proportion of the work concerns presenting members’ interests to the EU Parliament and Commission, as well as liaising between national moving associations and other trade organisations.

FEDEMAC members are mostly national moving associations (for example in the UK, the member is the British Association of Removers), however, it’s also possible for single qualified moving companies to become Direct Affiliates of FEDEMAC where there is no association or an association exists but is not interested in FEDEMAC membership.

Part of FEDEMAC’s role is to keep members up to date with European policy and it offers a range of resources via its website to do this, as well as a numbers of publications for members, a directory and an annual conference.

Criteria for membership:

Membership is via a national association – those in the UK who wish to be a part of FEDEMAC would need to join the British Association of Movers.
For most countries, membership is through a national moving association.

FEDEMAC is obviously very highly regarded by those who mention it and viewed as playing an important role in representing the interests of Europe’s movers. Some movers indicate that they are an individual member, rather than being a member via the British Association of Movers. Others list themselves as accredited by FEDEMAC, which is something that the organisation does not do.
